Ideally, everyone around the world would wake up each morning with their needs met; happy, loving and fulfilled.
It could happen you know.
But the world would have to develop some serious self-worth first. Because self-worth has a lot of knock-on effects, and I’m not sure that the world is ready for them all quite yet.
A life lived with self-worth looks different:
You can feel accomplished in what you do, even if you’re not the world leader at it
You can feel happy with the way you do things, even if you’re not the expert
You can feel satisfied with the effort you expend, even if it wasn’t much effort at all - even if it was ‘just enough’ and no more
You can be fairer to yourself, which means you can be fairer to other people
You can treat yourself with respect, so you understand why it matters. And that means that you can start to treat others with more respect, too
You can love yourself a little more, even when you don’t always get things ‘right’, which means that you can have compassion for the people around you who get things wrong as well
Self-worth allows us to have more self-awareness. It allows us to have higher self-esteem. It guides us towards self-love. It lets us explore self-expression. It all combines together to give us the self-assurance that we need to do the things that we want to do.
Because the world isn’t working as harmoniously as it could - and not everyone in the world does wake up each morning with their needs met.
It would be great, wouldn’t it, if we all grew up with solid self-worth? But <gestures around vaguely>, the world just doesn’t seem to be designed to facilitate that very much.
Which means it’s up to you and me to make it happen for ourselves.
Sorry, but there it is. And self-worth is fundamental to the rest of the stuff that we need, if we’re going to contribute what we’re here to contribute, regardless of what’s going on around us.
The reality is that self-worth takes time, and sometimes we have to work up to letting ourselves want what we want. As a species, we’re often conditioned to accept that we have to put up with what we’ve got in case what we get instead is worse - Better the Devil you know, etc.
Did you know that one of the reasons that we feel this way is because ‘Life in General’ has thrown our Root Energy out of whack?
Now, I’m not saying that, as I type this, faceless corporations are sitting in anonymous boardrooms debating about how to deliberately destabilise our Root Chakra energy. Although, what do I know, they might be.
But I am saying that the world is designed to scare us.
“…It’s designed to trigger fear, and stress, and high emotion. Take a look at the news – it’s designed to do the same. We pay more attention and come back to check on things more often when we are scared. Most news outlets rely on advertising for income, which means that the more eyes they can get on their stuff, and the more often… the more money they make.
It’s not by accident that the news you read, see and hear is rarely good.
…
Take a look at what you feed your body and your mind. Perhaps have a ponder why what we consume (through our eyes and ears and mouths and skin) in relation to our Root Chakra – the one that builds our strongest foundations – is so… triggering.”
- excerpt from Safe & Sound - A Modern Day User Guide for the Root Chakra.
Self-worth is a revolutionary act. I’m not the first to say this, and I won’t be the last. It’s enormously valuable for every single aspect of our lives.
When we have suitable amounts of self-worth, then the knock on effects are significant:
Physically, we take more care of our bodies and more care of the planet.
Emotionally, we require more while giving more in exchange (even if what we require is simply better boundaries).
Mentally, we take care of our thoughts more, we identify what’s healthy and what’s not, we check ourselves, and we check others.
Spiritually, we open up to possibility and we see our place as part of the whole.
I hope that your self-worth is already solid. I know that I have to work on mine on a regular basis, which is why I wrote Safe & Sound. But I also know that the increase I’ve seen in my self-worth over the last few years has truly been revolutionary for me. Awareness of how my energy interacts with the world around me has been transformational. It’s opened up paths and possibilities that I would never have seen, never mind explored.
It took me time. But it was worth it. I hope that you feel worth it too.
Love,
Alli
